October Antenatal Group Course
Our antenatal course has been designed to help you feel informed, confident and prepared for birth, feeding and life with your new baby, whatever your plans or circumstances.
Whether you're hoping for a water birth, planning an induction, considering an epidural or preparing for a planned Caesarean, you'll leave with practical knowledge, realistic expectations and the confidence to make decisions that feel right for you.
Led by an experienced midwife, Birth Balance provides honest, evidence-based education in a relaxed, welcoming environment where no question is too small.
What's Included
Week 1 – Preparing for the Final Weeks of Pregnancy
As your due date approaches, we'll cover everything you need to know before labour begins, including:
- Changes to your body in late pregnancy
- What to pack in your hospital bag
- Signs labour may be approaching
- When to contact maternity services
- Understanding reduced foetal movements
- Where to find trustworthy information and support
- Building your village
- Preparing mentally and practically for birth
Week 2 – Labour, Birth & Pain Relief
Feel prepared for whatever your birth looks like.
We'll cover:
- How labour works
- The stages of labour
- When to contact maternity services
- Medical and non-medical pain relief
- Birth planning and informed decision making
- Induction of labour
- Assisted birth and Caesarean birth
- The role of your birth partner
- What happens immediately after birth
Week 3 – Life With Your New Baby
Helping you feel confident as you begin life with your newest family member.
We'll cover:
- Normal newborn behaviour
- Nappy changing
- Bathing and cord care
- Safe sleep guidance
- Soothing your baby
- Understanding crying and newborn cues
- Common newborn concerns and when to seek help
Plus a dedicated Infant CPR & Baby Safety session with Lauren from Little Lifesavers CPR, including:
- Infant CPR
- Choking recognition and response
- Recovery position
- Identifying emergencies
- Safe sleep
- Car seat safety
Week 4 – Feeding & Preparing for the Postnatal Period
Because birth is only the beginning.
We'll cover:
- Breastfeeding and formula feeding
- Combination feeding
- Responsive feeding
- What to expect in the early days
- Maternal physical recovery
- Emotional wellbeing and the "baby blues"
- Looking after yourself as a new parent
- Building your support network
- Knowing where to access help after birth
- Open Q&A
